Recent statistics from the US indicate that at least one child per month dies as a result of strangulation from blind cords.
The good news is that many of these incidents can easily be prevented by using one of the new child safety devices available on the market today. Safety in Use Guidelines
- Make sure all cords and chains are secured and out of the reach from children
- Do not allow cords or chains to hang free
- Where possible, cords should end and/or be secured at least 1.6m up from the floor
- Never put a cot, bed, high chair or playpen near a window or patio door where a child can reach the blind cords or chain
- Keep sofas, chairs, tables, shelves or book cases away from windows to prevent children climbing up and reaching blind cords/chain
- Consider using cordless blind systems
